Great change comes with but one small change.
Any transformation has to start somewhere.
The new commercial HVAC in our office was just that sort of catalyst for the rising morale in our beat down office. That’s all thanks to having a new manager who was able to read the office almost immediately. Our old manager was not a happy person and was overcome with negativity. That sort of vibration really did spread across the entire office. Most of us were becoming defensive and got very much a me first attitude instead of working as a team. The office was even divided when it came to the thermostat setting. We only had one thermostat for our whole floor. That’s more than 50 people having to agree on one thermostat setting. A good manager would have recognized this early and picked an average temperature and stuck to it. But our old manager could have cared less. I can remember times when there were heated arguments and people almost coming to blows over the thermostat setting. But with our new manager, the changes have come quickly and it’s like a new day. She wasn’t even here a month before she changed the entire commercial HVAC situation. She had the HVAC company come in and completely replace the commercial HVAC in our office. We now have zone controlled HVAC. This allows us to group our desks together by thermostat setting. So those of us who need a little bit more HVAC cooling in the summer can group together. And those who need a little bit more HVAC heating in the winter have their own thermostat. It’s been a great change and has added to the feeling of hopefulness in our office.
