When I got home from work, she was in the basement
I do a lot of overtime hours this time of year, and when I get home, I don’t want to do anything. I want to take a hot shower, eat my dinner, and sit back in my recliner with a beer and ball game. My wife has a lot of other ideas about what I should do when I get home. She’s okay with the shower, dinner, and a beer, but she has a honey-do list that is as long as my arm. The last thing I want to do when I get home from work is tackle house chores. I will give it to her that the new hot water heater has been sitting in the basement for almost a month. I told her I would get it done over the weekend, but something has always come up. Last week, the car broke down. The week before that, her sister had a baby, and we had to go out of town. My sister got married the week before that. I didn’t think we had any plans for the upcoming weekend, so I told her I would get the hot water tank installation done then, but she didn’t think that was soon enough. I was working fourteen hours a day, and that left little time for me to unwind, get to bed, and wake up to start my day all over again. When I got home from work, she was in the basement. Chills ran up my spine when I pictured water all over the floor, and nothing plumbed right.. Her brother, who is a plumber, was giving her step-by-step instructions to make sure the hot water tank was installed properly.
