Our loud heating system lulls me to sleep

If we had a furnace system that is quieter than the one that we have now, I don’t know that I would ever be able to sleep again! I agree with him that there might be something wrong with the heating system that makes it that loud, but the last thing I want to do is get it fixed by a professional HVAC technician

The loud heating system in our house always lulls me to sleep at night during the winter. I think that the heating system is really soothing, but my husband seems to think differently than I do. He is constantly complaining about the fact that we have a really loud heating system in the house. He says that it keeps him from going to sleep at night, but it’s the opposite for me. I don’t understand why in the world the roaring sound does not put him to sleep the way it does me. I guess everyone is different when it comes to their sleeping habits. However, we have been fighting about the fact that we want different things from our heating system. My husband says that he wants to call our local heating and cooling company to have them come and change our furnace so that we will have a quieter, high efficiency furnace system instead of the one that we have now. Of course, whenever he talks about that, I get really mad. I just don’t want a new furnace system at all.I already have trouble sleeping as it is. If we had a furnace system that is quieter than the one that we have now, I don’t know that I would ever be able to sleep again! I agree with him that there might be something wrong with the heating system that makes it that loud, but the last thing I want to do is get it fixed by a professional HVAC technician. I think we should just leave it alone.

We have to get our air ducts cleaned

We have to get our air ducts cleaned next week.

I know that a lot of people think that air duct cleaning is not something that needs to happen all that often.

And maybe, that might actually be true. But for us, we have to have our ductwork cleaned out more often than the average person.I realized that a ventilation system runs on a closed circuit, and so there really isn’t that much opportunity for things to get inside of the ductwork as a general rule. However, for us, it’s a different story because we all have severe pollen allergies. Over the past month, the pollen around here has been really terrible, and we started to notice a change in the indoor air quality inside of our house. Come to find out, the air purification system that we had installed in our house wasn’t working correctly and therefore, a ton of pollen got inside of our ductwork . Normally this would not be a problem because the air purification system takes care of it. Unfortunately for us, that has not been the case this year due to the malfunctioning air purification system. Now, we need to get the entire ventilation system cleaned out professionally or we are going to be struggling with respiratory problems all summer long. It is just not worth it to save a little bit of money on our HVAC bills so I went ahead and made the appointment. The HVAC technicians are supposed to be here next Monday to get the ductwork cleaned out and the air purification system fixed.

I really liked the system in the rental house that we stayed in

The rental house had some ductless mini split heating and air conditioning systems installed instead of a regular forced air HVAC system

I really liked the HVAC system in the rental house that we stayed in over the weekend last week. I had never stayed in a home with this type of HVAC system before and so it was a new experience for me. Usually the type of HVAC system I encounter is a regular old furnace and air conditioning unit with forced air. I can’t say that I really like that type of heating and cooling system, but it’s one of those things. Most people generally just have that type of heating and cooling system in their homes for some reason. I guess that type of HVAC system is just more widespread than other types. However, whenever we were out of town last week, we ended up staying in a rental house that had a totally different kind of HVAC system. We had never even heard of this type of HVAC system before and so we were surprised when we got there and we didn’t see any heating and cooling vents anywhere. There weren’t any air vents in the ceilings or the floors and we were wondering how we were going to be able to adjust the temperatures in the rental house. It was really cold that weekend, and we wanted to turn the heating system up. That’s when we found the thermostat system. It wasn’t a regular thermostat unit, either. The rental house had some ductless mini split heating and air conditioning systems installed instead of a regular forced air HVAC system. We actually really loved it and we are thinking about getting one for ourselves.

Rock n’ roll HVAC tech

My lifelong dream was to be a professional musician.

I guess that is like a lot of kids, growing up worshiping the rock icons and pop stars of the time. I tried my hand at playing guitar, but just wasn’t very good at it. I tried to be a singer, but I wasn’t very good at that either. I never tried playing the drums, because my dad threatened to kick me out if I brought a drum set home. These days I am a roadie and stage tech for a major rock band, so I never got my dream, but at least it’s close. Oddly enough I got this rock and roll lifestyle not through music, but through being HVAC certified. It turns out that there are hundreds of guys willing to be roadies and work for next to nothing, but someone with a skill like sound engineering or HVAC work was much more valuable. When they are on stage the band needs not only lights and sound, but some form of climate control to keep them from overheating. The combined body heat of the crowd, coupled with the stage lights, makes it brutally hot during a performance, so my job as air conditioning tech is very important. I maintain a series of air ducts and vents under the stage, that are all flexible and movable, and I connect them to a small but powerful HVAC machine. It is hidden from the audience, but blasts icy cold air conditioning up through hidden vents to keep the boys nice and cool.

My HVAC mentorship and training program

I had a sit-down meeting with the chairwoman of the local school board, where I pitched her my mentorship program idea. At this point in my career, I don’t handle a lot of the day-to-day operations. I have a crew of techs, and an office of workers, who manage the business for me. After putting in 30 years, I am not complaining about that! However, with a surplus of free time I wanted to do something to benefit the community. My idea is an HVAC training and mentorship program, to give troubled teens a career choice that doesn’t involve going to college or flipping burgers. I was lucky, because my dad was in the HVAC industry and got me a job right out of high school, but most kids don’t have an opportunity like that. In an era when college loan debt is crushing our economy, more kids need to get into trade work, in this case the HVAC industry. Demand is always high for this kind of skilled labor, and if teens knew that HVAC training was a suitable option to going to college, they might be interested! My plan is to hold meetings, and eventually set up some ride-alongs where students can spend a few hours with an HVAC tech observing their work. I would be happy to set up scholarships for low-income youth who showed an interest in getting into the HVAC field. HVAC work is highly paid and always in demand, and it doesn’t put you under a mountain of student loan debt to achieve it.

Heating is a key element of survival

There is an old hunting lodge halfway up the mountains, about thirty miles away from the city.

When I was a kid my dad used to take me there.

He said his dad had built it, but I actually don’t know the legal status of the place. As far as I know it is entirely off the grid. After I got evicted, and had a lot of bill collectors breathing down my neck, I decided that going off the grid was a great idea. I smashed my cell phone, collected what money I could, and went to live in that hunting lodge for a while. That ended up being 8 months, and in that time I learned a lot about heating, hunting, and survival. The four main elements of survival are shelter, heating, water, and food, in that order! Since I had shelter all taken care of I could focus on the next step, which is not just building a fire, but making sure I had a consistent source of heating for the months to come. Building a fire is easy, but heating a cabin for days, or even weeks, on end requires a lot of manual labor. I had to chop and stack wood, as well as dissemble the furnace for a thorough cleaning before I used it. Once I had a reliable heating source I could find a ready source of clean water. Another reason heating is so important is to boil water. Because drinking stagnant water without boiling it can make you very sick. Heating also lets me cook my food.

There was money hidden inside the air vent

I have been going to police auctions for years now, and this was the first time I ever saw a house! Some drug kingpin had been taken down, all his assets seized, and now they were being auctioned off, so the cops could keep the money for their budget.

  • I have gotten a lot of great deals at the police auction over the years, but this one took the cake.

It was a decent place, too, although the plumbing needed work and the HVAC system needed to be replaced entirely. I have an old buddy from high school who works as a tech for a local HVAC contractor, and he offered to help me as a freelance gig. I would pay him cash, and he would buy the HVAC components that were needed from a wholesale warehouse, which would save me hundreds of dollars. I am glad that I had a friend doing my HVAC work, because once Lance got into the depths of the air ducts, he found some problematic things. Inside one of the air vents he found three different guns, wrapped in plastic and bound together with zip ties, as well as a small satchel with fifty thousand dollars in it. He kept searching the rest of the air ducts, but thankful he found no additional contraband. We decided the best course of action would be to hide the money, perhaps just by sticking it back in an air duct for a year or two. We would turn the guns into the police, because they might be evidence, but if no one asks about the money in the ductwork, I think we should keep it.
