One For All Air Conditioning

While I hated working in landscaping when I started out, I soon found it to be a fulfilling way for me to earn money after loathing the office grind for so many years.

When my boss at the tree company gave me a chance to be a supervisor within my first year of employment, I saw an opportunity to keep climbing to the top until I could eventually own a company like his someday in the future.

Even though I’m a company owner, I’m often present at many of the big contract jobs we do for local governments or massive businesses. I want to make sure that my client is getting the best possible service my company can provide. Often that simply entails monitoring the progress of my team and assisting with direction and leadership throughout the entire job so my foreman feels like he’s getting support for a change. The last thing I want to do is put all of that stress on the shoulders of my wonderful foremen whenever we have particularly stressful and important clients in the works. After a long day of working outside with my tree crew, I just want to come home and relax with the air conditioner turned down low. Usually I walk through the front door and immediately turn toward the thermostat for my central HVAC system. My air conditioner has a high SEER rating and is extremely satisfying to me after a long day of sweating in the dead of the morning and afternoon sun. I have a strong air conditioner that manages to cool my house down by several degrees without much of a hassle.

Knowing about Heating plus A/C systems helped me win at trivia the other evening when I was there with our friends.

It was the funniest thing because our friends guess that I don’t legitimately guess much about anything.

Unbeknownst to them, I grew up in a family of heating plus cooling professionals. I spent every Summer laboring on gas furnaces plus a/cs when I was a kid growing up in middle school. I l acquired just about everything that there was to guess about Heating plus A/C systems when I was young. Now, I’m in school plus the two of us don’t often have reasons to talk about Heating plus A/C systems! So most of our friends had no plan that I knew anything about the heating plus cooling profession at all. Anyway, the two of us were all there playing trivia plus suddenly, they changed 1 of the categories to heating plus cooling systems! I had never seen this type in trivia before, plus our ears perked right up! My friends all thought that our team was going to lose at that point because none of them knew a thing about Heating plus A/C systems. However, I was there to save the morning because I knew the answer to every single question that came up! I basically swept the entire type plus everyone was just blown away by the fact that I am an expert on heating plus cooling systems. I was pretty proud of myself, I have to say. I guess all of that time spent learning about Heating plus A/C systems wasn’t wasted after all! Who knows, maybe I will end up laboring in the Heating plus A/C industry someday myself.

Last week, we hosted our first dinner party in more than 5 years. That’s how long it took us before we went to the HVAC company to solve the indoor air issue we had. Man, it was so great to have everyone over and not have to be embarrassed by the indoor air quality. I didn’t cringe every time the heat pump kicked on because I knew that this would simply recycle all those odors. And we had tried ever so hard to hide those odors. There were sprays, plug-ins and even some expensive scented candles. But nothing really worked for more than a brief span of time. It was the worst. I didn’t want anyone who wasn’t living in this house to smell the odors in our home. Yet, we cooked plenty of exotic stuff and the kids were always tossing sweaty gear from various sports around. And then, there were the dogs and the cats. It was just a cauldron of odors that we could seemingly do nothing about. Finally, it dawned on us to go to the experts when it comes to indoor air. The HVAC company took great care of us. They explained that unless we removed the bacteria in the air that was causing the odors, we were wasting our time. So we invested in a whole home air purification system. This thing really is awesome. It works inside the HVAC equipment so we don’t have to move it around the house. And it uses high intensity ultraviolet light to kill indoor air contaminants so there are no air filters to clean. We couldn’t be happier to be opening our house up to friends again.

Getting older is not going so well for me.

I’ve had to basically give up all the stuff I love in the name of good health. For the past two years, I’ve been changing so much about my lifestyle in order to get healthier. I guess it’s about time since I’m in my late 50’s. Still it’s not so much fun to give up hanging out all weekend inside the air conditioning. I’d get up to get my chores done and then head out to get my supplies. Then, it was into the recliner by early afternoon to then watch hour after hour of sports. Of course, I would down copious amount of beer, sandwiches and chips while I was doing it. That ended two years ago. But I have improved my health and I feel better for having done it. Yet recently, I learned that the air I breathe inside my home is also so important when it comes to my health and my immune response. I learned this when I went to the doctor with a head and chest cold that wouldn’t quite go away. The doctor suggested I get ductwork cleaning done by the HVAC professionals and then add a HEPA filter to the mix. I did just that and not only did that cold vanish, my respiratory health is noticeably better with clean air ducts and that HEPA filter. I was also quite impressed with how thorough and careful the HVAC professionals were during the ductwork cleaning and ductwork resealing. I have to say that I’ll be adding this to Spring cleaning each year going forward.

It’s only a 10 by 12 foot space but it’s perfect for a home office

I guess where I work would be considered a home office. I mean, this place is at my address and on my property. But my home office isn’t really inside the central air conditioning of my home. I tried that and it just failed miserably. So that’s why I chose to go with this sort of home office instead. Of course, like so many other folks, I was sent home from the commercial HVAC of the office during the pandemic. That’s when I first tried working remotely from my own air conditioning. It was not a great experience by any measure. I was always trying to find an amount of privacy in order to focus on my work. When I worked inside the zone controlled HVAC of the office, I was often interrupted by my colleagues during my work day. However, I was able to find extended periods of time during the day to really focus in on my work. This was not at all the case when I was working from home. The summer of 2020 was the most uncomfortable I had ever experienced at work. Initially, I had been working from wherever I could find a surface that was clear for me to spread out a bit and dive into my work. Quite often, I worked under the HVAC air vent at the kitchen table. But of course, with my kids and my husband at home with me that summer, I got very little accomplished. So that’s why I ended up putting this prefabricated building in the backyard. It’s only a 10 by 12 foot space but it’s perfect for a home office. Once I got electrical run to my new home office, I called the HVAC company. And they put in a ductless heat pump for residential HVAC.

When our daughter turned five, we wanted to get her something cool for her birthday.

• She had been asking to go to Disney World for months, and we were going to take her, and her two best friends, which were my sister’s twin daughters.

Two weeks before her birthday, we asked her what she wanted more than anything, as a birthday present. She got a big smile on her face, and she asked if we bought her an HVAC system for her dollhouse? I was dumbfounded. I was sure she was going to say she wanted to go to Disney World. My husband got on the phone as soon as she went to bed, and started looking for playhouse HVAC systems.When we bought the playhouse, there was a fireplace built right in, but I didn’t think about an HVAC system. I should have known better since her dad was an HVAC technician. He found an old pot belly stove, and they sold fake window air conditioning units, but there were no HVAC systems. He brought home drawings of the small ductless HVAC systems, and he told me he could build it for a little bit of nothing. Our daughter was happy when she got the day of her birthday, and saw the mini split HVAC systems in every room of her dollhouse. She clapped her hands and asked if we were going to Disney World? Our sister, her husband, their two girls, and the three of us were leaving that weekend for a week in Disney World. She had tears because she said she was glad she could leave her dolls home knowing they would have HVAC.

Twice a year, I pulled up the air vent covers. I clean the air vent covers in hot soapy water, and then I vacuum the air duct. I try to get the air vents as clean as I can. Once every two or three years, I’ll call the HVAC company and have them come to the house to clean and sanitize the ductwork. They inspect the ductwork before cleaning, and look for any holes or cracks. They have a special adhesive they can blow into the ductwork that will attach to the holes and cracks and heal them over. This year, I was calling the HVAC company as soon as I cleaned the air vent covers and the air ducts. I was cleaning them in my teenaged daughter’s room, and I was getting angrier by the minute. She wasn’t supposed to be chewing gum because of her braces. I was not just finding chewing gum wrappers in the ductwork, but there was chewing gum hanging off the bottom of the air vent covers. When she got home from school, I confronted her. I wanted to know where the chewing gum came from. She wanted to know why I was in her room without telling me first. She knew I cleaned air vents, so I ignored the question. I told her that if I found out she was chewing gum again, I would make sure she wore the braces to her senior prom. If I found gum in the air vents again, she would be sporting it in her hair, just like a new hairdo.
