Listening to anything important just doesn’t happen when I finally get my hands on some new toy for the house or for myself.
This is why I completely ignored the HVAC contractor when he suggested I read and register the warranty for the new HVAC equipment.
All of that went in one ear and right out the other one. So it was sort of karma that I had a near meltdown a few months later. Getting our new HVAC equipment was a year long process. From the time the HVAC technician told us that our HVAC unit was on its last legs to the installation of the new residential HVAC took right at a year. Some of that time was spent saving money for the new HVAC equipment. But we also spent plenty of time learning and understanding all the changes in HVAC technology. We met with the HVAC contractor in order to understand the heating and cooling options. The HVAC contractor then came out and did the inspection. Once we got to installation day, I was just so excited to get my hands at all this new HVAC technology. So I was far too distracted with that to hear the HVAC contractor talk about the warranty registration. Of course, I completely freaked out a couple months later when I thought it was void because I hadn’t registered it. But my wife did like the day after the new HVAC unit was installed. To her credit, she listened to the HVAC professional. And she let me spin a bit before she told me that it had all been done on time and the warranty was not void.
