I stood at the top of the basement steps listening to the HVAC technician as he worked on the furnace.
- I knew it needed a new air filter, because my husband had been away for a while, and I didn’t know how to change the air filter.
I was going to tell them I just needed a new air filter when I called the HVAC company, but I didn’t want the secretary to laugh at me. Now, I was listening to the HVAC technician and wished I had told him about the air filter. It had been about six months since they sent my husband to the Middle East, and it was at least that long since we changed the air filter. My husband asked me if I had changed the air filter since he left. I told him I didn’t know how, and he recommended I call the HVAC company. I was listening to the HVAC technician, and he sounded like he was fighting with the furnace, and he was losing. I stood there for a while, and then I went downstairs. I apologized to him because it was my fault if he couldn’t get the air filter out. I cried and said my husband was in the Middle East and he never showed me how to change the air filters. He said I should always call the HVAC company when I was in doubt. If I had called the HVAC company two months ago, the air filter would have been changed by an HVAC technician and he would have showed me how to do it in the future.
