I wasn’t just helping people find the perfect HVAC system for their needs, but I was learning how to build HVAC systems.
Someone once asked me what it was like to be an HVAC technician, and I told them it was rewarding work. I could have been more effusive, but I was bored. I wanted something more to do. I liked being an HVAC technician, but I thought there was something more for me to do in my life. When I had the opportunity to become an HVAC contractor, I was finally excited. I knew how to repair and install HVAC systems, but now I was going to be building them. I could go into homes and inspect HVAC systems for prospective buyers and sellers. I worked with people having houses built, so they had the perfect HVAC system for their needs. I also helped people decide what type of HVAC system they want. The only problem with being an HVAC contractor was my interest. Being an HVAC contractor is interesting, but I wanted to go further. I went back to school for HVAC engineering. I wasn’t just helping people find the perfect HVAC system for their needs, but I was learning how to build HVAC systems. I knew the HVAC system inside and out, and was helping to build one that was more economical and environmentally friendly. I’m not just having a job that is rewarding or interesting or even exciting. I was enjoying being an HVAC engineer, and I was doing something that would be beneficial not for those today, but for the future of HVAC. It took about fifteen years to get where I am, but I don’t begrudge any of the time I had to put in to get here.
