My wife and I had talked about having a whole-home air purification system installed.
I knew we had to contact an HVAC company. There had to be different things that needed done when installing a whole-home air purification system. I called the HVAC company we used for our HVAC system and told them what we wanted. Two days later, an HVAC technician was at my door. He inspected the furnace and the air conditioning unit. He had records from the HVAC company about our HVAC system, but he wanted to be sure. He told us the furnace was all wrong for an HVAC system. To have a whole-home air purification system, you had to have a system that was compatible with a HEPA air filter. Our air conditioning unit could take a HEPA air filter, but not the furnace. Our furnace was getting old, so I thought I would just get a new furnace, something else worried him. He said he did have records about the ductwork. Was it ever cleaned? Did it need repairs? He then talked about UV lights. Anything that could get through the HEPA air filters, had to pass by a UV light. I knew what UV lights were for. I had a water filtration system that had a UV light. It killed everything that passed over it. I asked if there was anything else we could use for air purification without a new furnace. He said we could do other things, but the furnace would still need to be replaced before winter arrived. I knew I wasn’t going to get around purchasing a new furnace.
