When mom and dad picked me up, I told them I had a lot of fun, but I couldn’t get used to not having air conditioning
I know I have told everyone my story, but my grandparents didn’t believe in air conditioning. They didn’t have air conditioning in the house, and neither did their parents. They were a family of farmers and knew how to deal with heat and humid summers. They would come in from the field, and wash in cold water. I would often see them with wet cloths on the back of their necks or on their heads. I grew up in the city, and my mom and dad had air conditioning. When dad moved away from the farm and went to college, he never looked back. He embraced this modern way of living, and we had air conditioning in our home. One summer, my parents took me to the farm so I could get to know my grandparents. I was there quite often through the years, and when my parents were on vacation. We would spend the holidays with my grandparents, but it was always cool. This year, I was going to spend time during the summer. They expected me to work on the farm with them, and there was no air conditioning in my room. I had a hard time sleeping at night, and I couldn’t get used to it. When mom and dad picked me up, I told them I had a lot of fun, but I couldn’t get used to not having air conditioning. It was even harder when I got back home. I was shivering the first week home, because the air conditioning was too cold for me.
