Sometimes you never really know a person even if you spend a lot of time with them, and I know that about one of my old employees! Jack was a genuinely quiet guy.
He never got into any trouble and he always handled the repairs that were on his schedule, then one client had a complaint about Jack, but it was about a service that was too expensive! No one ever complained about his character.
I never would have let Jack go from the HVAC service business. He was an asset to the corporation! When he moved out of town, I was sad to see him go. I did not hear his name again until last weekend when I was enjoying the news. The name caught me off guard and I had to rewind the DVR to watch the news story a second time. It was absolutely the guy that used to work for me that was featured in the news story. The guy was arrested for being part of an immense drug ring in town. He was arrested with bags of cocaine, meth, and crack. He had guns and money in the car too. I was genuinely surprised to hear his name and see his face. I thought about going down to the jail to see if the guy needed any help, but my wife didn’t want me to get involved, and she told me that 2 years have passed since the guy worked for me and he certainly is not the same employee that I remember. I believe she is certainly right, but I feel bad for the guy.
