Most of my friends live in apartments, but I decided to buy a tiny house a few months ago.
I knew there had to be a way for me to live in an affordable housing situation without living with my mom and dad. The tiny house was my path to autonomy. I live in a small community outside of town that has other unique homes. One guy has a yurt and another guy lives in a shipping container home. There are several people like me that live in tiny homes. My house is 300 square feet and I use every inch of space. I have shelves under my bed and pockets to hang things on the walls. I have a very small kitchenette, because I do most of my cooking on the flat top grill outside. I have a small porch with an overhang to keep me dry in the rain. I have my grill outside, so I don’t stink up the house with smells of bacon and pork. Having the grill outside also keeps the indoor temperatures at a low level. My tiny house is an affordable living solution. I pay a small fee each month to live in the community and I paid cash for my tiny home. I have very few bills each month and that means that I have a lot more freedom. I only have to spend about $800 every month for my housing allowance and several of my friends have to spend at least twice that amount. I’m happy to give up all of the extra and unnecessary space to live life more simply and with less complications.
