I was really proud of our son when he chose to volunteer for the local HVAC contractor.
This was basically community service that he had to do for school.
For a little while, he was talking about possibly volunteering at the library, but I told him he should look into something a little more exciting. I wasn’t even the one who suggested going to the HVAC company, he just thought it might be something cool to try out. He learned a lot about different heating and cooling systems. He helped carry tools and supplies around, but he was safe the whole time. He said the most impressive project was helping with the installation of radiant heated floors. He said how amazing it was the way the PEX tubes were installed on the subflooring after putting a thin coating of concrete down. He explained that the concrete was an excellent retainer for the heat that was produced by the hot water, and all that heating radiated perfectly upwards and heated everything evenly in the home. He talked about how energy efficient this heating system was and everything. I couldn’t believe it, he seemed like an expert. Then he asked if we could upgrade our heating system to radiant heated floors. We actually did have enough money and our heating system was quite old. So I thought why not, and we went for the new radiant heated flooring installation. My son was eager to help and it was the same HVAC company he was volunteering with. The installation came out perfectly, and now we have the best heating system around thanks to our son’s suggestion.
