I honestly was feeling kind of dense when the HVAC contractor came out for a free consultation. He kept asking us what kind of heating system we were interested in. I just shrugged and said whatever heating system was the cheapest. This made the HVAC professional laugh a little bit. He seemed to be kind of surprised that I didn’t really know which heating system I should go for. Of course, I didn’t realize there were so many available options on the market. This guy was talking about dual fuel heating systems, VRF systems, heat pumps, geothermal HVAC systems, radiant heated floors, boiler systems, and eventually I just had to tell him that was enough. I asked if I could just get a standard forced air central heating system. He paused for a minute and then said we could go for something like that, of course. In my mind, this guy was just trying to sell us the most expensive systems on the market. He kept going on about how energy efficient these systems were, which I was skeptical about. He even mentioned that the heating systems that he was talking about didn’t generate any noise, they were whisper quiet. Honestly, I love it when the heating system cranks on and I hear that rush of hot air flowing through the ductwork. To me, it wouldn’t be the same if I didn’t hear the noises from the HVAC system. I swear those noises help me sleep better. Finally the HVAC professional was able to make the arrangements for the standard gas furnace, and I was happy about the price.
