I have always enjoyed having a fireplace in my house, and i have never had any kind of fireplace other than the kind that burns wood.
In other words, the old-fashioned kind, that way back in the afternoon used to serve as the gas furnace for the home! Well, just about all the people knows that a respected old-fashioned wood burning fireplace is not absolutely the best source of heating for anyone’s home; Unless modifications are made to it, Heywood burning fireplace sends most of the heating it creates straight up the chimney, therefore, the only thing getting hot because of your fireplace are the pigeons who are smart enough to hang out on the Roof near the chimney, anyway, this is how it’s always been for me.
I generally use the fireplace only rarely, plus I never count on it as a source of heating. I pretty much use the fireplace for Ambiance only. In other words, I appreciate the way it looks plus the crackle plus the romance of it. That being said, this year I am using the fireplace as another heater. Yes I have Central Heating plus Cooling, plus I have it turned on. This Winter has been exceptionally cold in my neck of the woods. Therefore, I am taking my heat wherever I can get it. I have used a portable gas furnace that you plug into the wall, the furnace portion of my Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C system, plus the fireplace, all in an effort to let them help each other keep my cabin nice plus toasty warm.Although the fireplace may not be the best source of heating, it easily doesn’t add to the chill effect. If you are having an exceptionally cold winter, I recommend that you get all your heating everywhere you can as well! Oh yup, do not forget to wear a jacket, the best source of heating is your own body.
