I have a cold, so I’m pretty much stuck in my apartment for the next couple of mornings.

It makes me really appreciate the small town I live in and how simple everything is. The worst thing about living here is that I don’t get to see my family and friends as often as I used to. However, I feel like I need to be here because the US has become too wasteful and too fast for me. It seems like all of my friends are buying air conditioners and boilers and trying to make their homes better, even though they were fine before. I’ve seen it happen over and over again: people build bigger homes than they need, and all of their energy goes into consumption, leaving them with nothing left for creative projects. I left my local supplier company in 2008 when I moved to New York City to do comedy full time, and I’m glad I did because cleaning ductwork every afternoon was making me feel like I was losing my mind. There is nothing wrong with trading and making money, but if you feel like you have something inside you that needs to get out, you have to listen to that feeling and go after it. I ran my business back home for ten years before I decided I needed a break from the world of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and the busyness of daily life back home.
