The HVAC tech smelled 90 proof.

I was anxious for the HVAC technician to arrive.

We were going to discuss a new air conditioning unit for my house.

When he got there, my antennae were up and I was ready for him to leave immediately. When he was introducing himself to me, all I could smell was alcohol. The HVAC technician smelled 90 proof. I was thinking he could have had some cough syrup before he came into the house, but he didn’t appear sick. Maybe someone offered him an iced tea. It was really hot out. It could have been a Long Island iced tea.No matter what scenario I could come up with, my conscience was asking if I really believed it. I talked to my husband and told him what I suspected. He said he would go into the kitchen and talk to him. If he called me by name, I should call the HVAC company and tell them, but first say I would be there in ten. Two minutes later, I heard him call to me and he called me Nancy. As much as I hated doing it, I had to call the HVAC company and let them know their technician could be inebriated. The owner of the company soon got on the phone. He told me to keep him there by asking HVAC questions. He was going to be there in five minutes and he would be bringing another van. The HVAC tech would fix my air conditioning unit, and he was driving this one to the HVAC company. I hope the guy doesn’t lose his job.
