My colleague had invited me to her house for dinner, so we went straight to her house instead of going home first.
When she opened the front door, it felt like we had walked into a sauna.
Her house had a ductless heat pump, but the temperature control system had to have a mind of its own to reach such high temperatures. She went straight to her thermostat and reset the temperatures like she would on a hot summer day. It was too late to call the HVAC business. Whitney decided to check the last time she had an air conditioning tune-up, and while she was at it, she saw that someone had set a timer to reset the temperature in the afternoon. She remembered giving her neighbor’s daughter her phone to play games. For once, I was glad I did not have an app on my phone where I could control the temperature settings of the new air conditioning system I recently had installed. The good thing was that we did not need a cooling specialist since all Whitney had already reset the system. In light of that incident, I remembered that the new contractor who did the installation at my house had shown me how to check the HVAC duct for leaks and in case there were any, she had shown me the best way to go about duct sealing. I was about to share that knowledge, but I remembered that Whitney’s house had a mini-split air conditioner. In about two hours, the system had restored good indoor air quality. In both our homes, we had insisted that the cooling expert set up a zone control system primarily because of its novelty. Still, we later learned its importance and energy efficiency.
