We were in the process of adding a new room because my husband’s grandmother was coming to live with us.
At first, she had protested, saying she did not want to be a burden, but at her age, we would not let her live alone again.
We were her only living relatives nearby because my husband’s sister lives on a different continent. We would move some of the things she treasured to her new room and then sell the rest. With all the renovations we had done a few years back, including having the new contractor install new air conditioning equipment, which was always up to date on air conditioning tune-up, grandmother would get a good deal. Our home already had a dual fuel system, and when we consulted a cooling specialist, he advised us to install a ductless heat pump unit in the new room. It was the most straightforward option as there would be no need to put up any HVAC duct, and we would not need to worry about duct sealing in that room. The HVAC business gave us a date when they would deliver the equipment. The cooling expert and his team installed it the next day. All that was left was a heat pump service. Our grandmother would surely enjoy the indoor air quality in her new home. The heating business was right when they suggested the mini split air conditioner because she could easily adjust the temperature control system to her desired temperature settings. The thermostat only controlled the unit in her room, which was very convenient and enabled us to have a zone control system.
