New year's resolutions for your home

Everyone makes New Year’s resolutions at the end of the year. However, it is also a good time to make some New Year’s resolutions for your home. One very effective way to feel better about your home is to get rid of clutter. Most of us acquire many things throughout the year. Go from room to room and clear away anything to not need, want or use. Many items can be donated to charity or sold at a yard sale. Check your home for radon. Install a carbon monoxide detector in every bedroom, in addition to fire detectors. Another safety hazard in your home is dryer lint. Clean the little trap inside the door but also clean the vents and ducts behind the dryer. There are a variety of ways to lower your energy bills such as turning off the lights when you leave a room, installing LED bulbs and low flow shower heads. Also, have your HVAC system maintained for both fall and spring when needed. Tips that will help keep your home clean are putting dishes in your dishwasher every night, placing dirty clothes into the hamper and cleaning your home by trying the following tips. Keep all your cleaning products in a portable carryall; one that moves with you from room to room and focus on one type of cleaning at a time. Preparing and updating your home for entertainment in the New Year doesn’t have to be expensive. For example, potted plants placed in beautiful ceramic planters, liven up living and dining rooms. Colorful rugs or runners can brighten a room and add comfort and ambiance to a room that needs color. Follow some of the resolutions above for your home, especially HVAC resolutions and enjoy the results.
