When you have a big bout of mold in your home, even if you clean it all up and get rid of it there is still going to be particles hanging around in the air. This is why a good idea when dealing with mold would be to get yourself a few portable air purification systems. The HVAC technician wouldn't discuss the AC with me.
Living in the country was a totally different experience for my husband and I.
We both lived in the city from the time we were born, and suddenly we were thrust into country life.
I loved the freedom of walking down the road and not being harassed by beggars. I didn’t need to worry about pickpockets or muggers when I took my kids to the park. The air was clean, and we could see the stars at night. Life was amazing. I wasn’t used to needing to drive to the grocery store, and not being able to pick up the phone and have food delivered in minutes. I liked the convenience of the city, but that was all. I also liked that when I called the HVAC company, I was going to get the same couple of people all the time. Last month, I had to laugh. I called the HVAC company to have our air conditioning unit checked. When the HVAC technician arrived, he kept looking around the house. I asked if there was a problem, but he said no. Two minutes later, he asked me where my husband was. I thought he may be concerned about being there when he wasn’t home, but he was working. I told him he should be home in an hour. He then wanted to know if he would be home before the air conditioning unit was serviced and repaired? I wasn’t sure if he would be home that soon, but I could call and ask. He told me he wanted to discuss some of the things he found during his inspection. The man wanted to discuss the air conditioner with my husband and not me.
We had to find a new HVAC company.
Over the last several years, our HVAC company has undergone many changes.
- The worst of all the changes was getting a new owner.
The previous owner was retiring, and his son took over. Ever since he took over, the company has been going downhill. Their pricing went up and the quality of work went down. I needed to find a new HVAC company that knew what they were doing and cared for their customers. I wasn’t sure it was going to be as easy as I hoped, but I knew it was a necessity. My husband was starting to call the other local HVAC companies to see what their pricing was like. We have websites for the three HVAC companies and have been doing a lot of reading. We think we have it narrowed down a bit, but two of them sound really good. After comparing the website from the old HVAC company and this one, we know we are going to be better off regardless of which new company we choose. My husband thinks we should call and make an appointment for a free service. Two of the companies are offering free air conditioner inspections for new customers, and this may be a way to find out what kind of business ethics they have. As much as we hate the idea of changing HVAC companies, we are excited to start the process of finding a new one. We’ll have the air conditioning unit serviced, and maybe the furnace serviced early, if we make the appointments right. I just want to have an HVAC that puts its customer first.

Did they say when the HVAC tech would arrive?
I was hoping all I needed to get my air conditioning unit back up to snuff was extra coolant.
I would have thought the HVAC technician would have filled the coolant when he did the inspection on the air conditioning.
I also would have thought he would have found any problems and repaired them while he was here. It is now one month later, and our air conditioning isn’t working. I was frustrated, and my husband was upset. He asked if the HVAC company told me when the HVAC tech would arrive? He had to go to work shortly, and was hoping he would be home when he got there. I told him they said it would be sometime in the afternoon. I asked if he wanted me to call the HVAC company and tried to get a better time frame, but he didn’t think it would matter. The HVAC technician would get here when he got here. I kissed him and told him to have a good day at work. At 2 PM, I called the HVAC company. I hadn’t heard anything from the technician or from them. My husband would be home at 5 PM and I hoped the HVAC technician would be here working at that time. When I called the HVAC company she told me he wouldn’t be there until the next morning. I needed my air conditioning unit repaired soon, but if that was their earliest, I wasn’t complaining. I did remind her I was told he would be there that afternoon, but she said I hadn’t received a definite time frame. She was now telling me it would be between 8 AM and noon the following day.
We couldn't afford a new HVAC system.
We knew there was nothing wrong with our HVAC system, but we were considering what would happen if the furnace or air conditioning unit broke.
We knew they were machines, and although theoretically they should last fifteen years or more, we didn’t want to wait for the fifteen year time frame to occur.
We were already looking at the price of new HVAC systems for the house, hoping to have most of the money in the bank before that time arrived. We wrote down the model of AC unit and furnace we had, and started looking them up. They no longer had that make or model, but there were similar HVAC systems. They were more expensive than we had paid for ours, and that was to be expected. Prices had risen drastically in the last ten years. I did the figures and came up with an annual price hike percentage per year. Over five years, the HVAC system would be so expensive we couldn’t afford a new one. We knew how much we had to put in the bank every year, but we also knew it wasn’t going to happen. It was more money than we put back for taxes, vacation, and emergencies. My husband looked at me and told me we would need to take out a HELOC if we had to buy a new HVAC system. I shrugged and told him we would do what we had to do. I could always work a little more which could give us another $1000 a month. He smiled and told me he was glad the new HVAC system was hopefully another five years away.
Water shouldn't be coming from the furnace.
I walked into the basement last month, and I couldn’t believe there was water pouring from the furnace.
I was afraid the water would run my well dry, it was coming out so quickly.
I called the HVAC company and told them water was coming from my furnace, and I needed their help. The HVAC technician told me water shouldn’t be coming from the furnace, unless it was a boiler. He asked how my heat was distributed? I didn’t know. I just knew I heard the furnace running, and then I had heat. I paid for oil when I needed it for the furnace. If there wasn’t oil or electricity, I didn’t have heat. The HVAC technician told me he would be there shortly, but I should turn off the water. He had to walk me through turning the water off. I turned off the water valve, but he had me turn off the main valve, which meant I had no water anywhere in my house, and I wasn’t happy. I hoped the HVAC technician would arrive soon. When he got there, he told me to call a plumber. The boiler was in good condition, but the pipes needed replacing. I asked him what a boiler was, and why I didn’t have a furnace. He told me a boiler heated water, and the water flowed through pipes and the heat from the pipes sent heat into the house. I called my brother who was a plumber and told him I needed new water pipes for the boiler system. I didn’t understand anything he was saying about the boiler, but I understood needing a plumber.
It wasn’t like my husband to turn the thermostat off.
Before my husband left for work, he would adjust the thermostat to energy saving mode and then turn off all the lights.
- I had to be at work an hour before him, and I got home an hour and a half before him.
Last week, I left for work and knew when I got home, the house was going to be cool and comfortable. It was supposed to be ninety and humid. When I got home, it was ninety and humid in the house, and the air conditioning wasn’t working. When I looked at the thermostat, I thought my husband had turned it off. It wasn’t like him to turn the thermostat off, but as I said, he did put it into energy saving mode. The air conditioning would begin to ramp up half an hour before I got home, and the house would be cool when I walked in. The more closely I looked at the thermostat, I knew it was the problem and not my husband. I called him and asked if he would pick up a new thermostat on his way home from work? He promised to stop at the HVAC company and get a new programmable from them. That way, he could talk an HVAC technician into installing it for him. My husband was an excellent business man, but he knew nothing about electricity. He cringed if he had to change a light bulb. Two hours later, our new thermostat was installed, and refreshingly cool air was coming from the air vents. I’m glad all we needed was a thermostat to get the AC unit running again.
