It had been at least a couple of years, maybe longer, since the last duct cleaning. I like to have a full cleaning of my home every few months. Those cleanings take several days as I deeply scrub the tiles and mop the floors, wash the windows and so much more. However, I can only clean the parts of my home that I can reach. My air ducts I can’t reach, and knowing they go uncleaned always has bothered me. That is where a heating and A/C worker comes in. The HVAC team comes and cleans out my ductwork. The air duct cleaning usually takes a few hours, but it is so worth it in the end because my home feels so much cleaner afterwards. After seeing how dark and dusty the inside of the ductwork is, I never wanted it to be dirty like that again. So now every couple of years or so, I have the A/C team come out to clean the ducts again. Thankfully, I have a HVAC service plan, and in that service plan air duct cleaning is covered, so I pay very little. Once I was done repairing the bathroom faucet, I called and scheduled an appointment with the heating and A/C business. The appointment is going to be next Wednesday, and that is a good day because I am off of work that day. I might ask about getting a new thermostat as well, and I am sure the professional cooling worker would know all about the best new thermostats, whether it be a nest thermostat or a wifi thermostat. I would like to know more about them.

I knew for a while that it was likely my ductwork that had issues.

You see, my home every year has not been warmed efficiently, despite running the furnace system continuously.

Most people would automatically assume that it was a heater issue. But I knew it could not be my heating device because I always get my heating and A/C units looked at every year. The HVAC worker told me that the HVAC machine was in good condition, so I knew that the furnace was not the issue. That meant that it was likely the ductwork, which would make sense because if there are issues with the ductwork it would not be able to cool as efficiently. I wasn’t able to get a HVAC specialist to come to my home until almost 2 weeks later, due to lack of money. I was really hoping that the cost of air duct repair was not going to be too expensive because I wasn’t really sure if I could afford it. The heating and air conditioning tech examined the ductwork for a while, but then he told me exactly what I had guessed. The ductwork had holes in it. Thankfully, holes in the ductwork could be patched up on the same day and taken care of. Then there was the price, I was expecting the worst, but it actually wasn’t as bad as I thought. I was actually able to pay for the ductwork repair and have my furnace device working as it should. I definitely noticed a difference too, within a day, my home heated up and I actually had to turn it down a bit.

I woke up one morning and thought that I wanted to go to HVAC school.

I never thought of being an HVAC technician, and I didn’t know where it was coming from. I had this overwhelming urge to go to HVAC school. I looked at myself in the mirror and tried to picture myself as an HVAC technician, and just shrugged. It was only 4 AM, so I went back to bed and decided I would sleep on it and see what I thought in a couple of hours. When I woke up at 7 AM, I shrugged. I hadn’t dreamed about being an HVAC technician again, but I was still thinking about checking the local college to see what they have in HVAC classes. I had recently graduated college, and I didn’t have any plans for the future. Becoming an HVAC technician wasn’t just a job, but it was a career. In the future, everyone is going to need air conditioning, so it isn’t a job without merit. When I went to college, I wanted to do something that would help mankind. What better kind of help can I give than to start at home. I could supply heating and air conditioning, and make some money besides. Not everyone needs to be altruistic, or philanthropist to make a change in the world. All I need to do is help people get energy efficient HVAC with the least amount of impact to the environment, and I can do that. My mind knew I wanted to be an HVAC technician while sleeping even before I knew it while awake..

No one can tell me I can’t.

Last week, the HVAC technician was working on my furnace. I knew I shouldn’t have sat on the steps and watched him. I shouldn’t have been asking so many questions and asking how much this was going to cost. Maybe I shouldn’t have asked him if he knew what he was doing, and where was his mentor. He shouldn’t have told me to go away. I stomped upstairs like a six-year-old child and grabbed my phone. My wife asked what was wrong, and I told her how I felt. I was going to call the HVAC company and tell them he was rude and they should fire me. She took my phone and told me it was time to relax. She told me to calm down and think about what I was doing before acting. She listened to my complaints, and it wasn’t until I finished talking that I realized she was trying to keep from laughing. She told me I sounded like our son when he got caught sneaking out of the window. I began arguing, but I realized she was right. I was keeping the HVAC technician from doing his job, and every minute he was there, was adding to my HVAC bill. I also realized that while I was hassling him with questions about his ineptitude, I was also causing him to get upset, and that’s what causes stupid mistakes.

After my central air conditioning unit broke, I couldn’t understand how a new one could cost so much.

I told the HVAC technician that I had to take some time to think about it.

The next thing I knew, it was winter, and I still hadn’t decided about the air conditioning unit. I was talking to dad, and he asked if I had thought about using window air conditioning units until I could afford a new air conditioning unit, or decide to buy a new central AC unit. I hadn’t considered window air conditioning units, but once he said it, I was seriously considering them. For half the price of a central air conditioning units, I could buy window air conditioning units for every room in the house. They had window AC units with remote so I could velcro them by the light switch. When I went in the room, I could grab the remote and turn the AC on. On the way out, I will hit the light switch and grab the room, turning both the lights and the air conditioning off. It would be like zone control. There would be an AC unit in every room, just like there would be a thermostat with zone control. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of this, but now I was glad I my dad had. I planned to go home and doi a lot of research about window air conditioning units. I wanted them to be efficient in energy use and cooling power, but I also had a price range to keep.

I couldn’t understand why no one wanted me to do my own HVAC servicing.

There were a few times when he took me to work with him, when all he was doing was servicing. I didn’t just sit there and look pretty. He allowed me to help him do the servicing and make the repairs. I had such a good time, and I considered becoming an HVAC technician. My ex-boyfriend was totally against it, so I gave up the idea. Lately, I had been considering becoming an HVAC technician again. I wanted to do the servicing on my air conditioning unit this spring. When I mentioned it to my mom, my dad and siblings were there. It was like they rehearsed it when I heard them tell me not to do it. I looked at them like they were crazy. I was almost thirty, and I had the right to do anything I wanted to do. I could afford to go to school, and I would still manage working. I was so excited that even their arguments wouldn’t work to change my mind. Not only did I talk to my mom when I was thinking about going to HVAC school, but I had already gone to the college and gotten the information. I’m sure that becoming an HVAC technician will be a turning point in my life. I wish my family hadn’t all shown up. I wanted to tell mom about going to HVAC school, and I wanted to tell her about my new boyfriend.
