One For All Air Conditioning

One of the best additions to my home has got to be my radiant heated flooring.

• I have always loved different forms of heating, and so when I heard about heated flooring, I knew I had to have it.

Like when I first bought my home, it didn’t have a fireplace in it. I didn’t want to settle for an electric fireplace, I wanted to have an actual gas fireplace. Having a fireplace installed is very expensive, but to me, it was fully worth it. And I knew that getting radiant heated flooring would be the same way. The only thing that concerned me was how much the price was going to be. So imagine my surprise and happiness when I found out that having heated flooring installed was actually pretty easy and inexpensive. There was a video I watched that promoted radiant heated flooring, and it sounded great. Right after I was done watching that video, I made sure to call the local HVAC business and ask them about heated flooring. They basically confirmed what the video had said, and so I set an appointment for the heated floor to be installed in my home. Some people only had a heated floor in their bathroom, but I wanted it throughout my entire house. The installation took hours, but when everything was said and done, the heated flooring was everything I was hoping for. With this new flooring and my wonderful fireplace, my home will never ever be cold again.

You know, I always knew there were different kinds of heating and air conditioning filters, but I never thought they made much of a difference.

I figured that it was just different brand names that served the same purpose equally. However, I found that some brands truly are better. I used to get the cheapest quality A/C filters I could find, but that was really harmful for my air conditioning system, as well as it didn’t do a great job of cleaning the indoor air quality of my home. It wasn’t until I got a free HEPA air filter that I realized the difference. After trying a HEPA air filter in my heating and air conditioning machine, I felt like my air was cleaner, and I also noticed my air conditioning machine seemed to be working slightly more efficiently as well. I was shocked, all this from just a simple air filter change? It made me wonder what else I could change for maximum efficiency of my heating and air conditioning system. After that experience, I decided that I was going to start buying HEPA air filters all the time. I don’t think I could ever see myself going back to the cheap crappy air filters that I was used to previously. If you have a central HVAC unit, and you don’t have HEPA air filters, I would highly recommend them. They really do work so much better! I am going to read more about heating and cooling later, to see what else I can learn.

On the outside, the home looked like a dream. It looked like everyone’s dream home, and you could tell it carried an expensive price with it. So, I couldn’t believe that I was lucky enough to be moving into this house. I recently married my husband, and together, we had purchased this lovely home. With our combined incomes, it made all of our dreams possible. However, the illusion of a perfect home was eliminated as soon as you stepped inside. The house had absolutely awful indoor air quality! The kind that made it difficult to breathe, and it would make both of us cough. There was no way this beautiful home was going to have awful indoor air quality. So we started by buying a whole home media air cleaner, as well as using HEPA air filters. Then, we bought a humidifier to increase the humidity in the home so the air would stop being so dry. The dry air was particularly bothersome, because I felt like I could barely breathe. However, after all of our hard work, you could barely tell that this home had ever had awful air quality. Now I felt like I could show my new home off to my good friends. Everyone was impressed with my wonderful home, and I was finally feeling like I was living the dream with my loving husband. I am so happy that our indoor air quality is great, our heating and air conditioning machine is great, and everything worked out perfectly.

I arrived home from school, and I immediately noticed how heated our apartment was.

We had a window air conditioner, and it was prone to issues. Usually my parents would just call the HVAC tech to fix the problem, but since they weren’t home right now, I guess I would be waiting awhile. My older brother knew of the issue already, and he was relaxing in the living room. I went into my room to scroll on my phone for a little while. When I came out of my room, I recognized the look on my brother’s face immediately. That was a face up to no good. He had a glint in his eye as he stared at the window heat and cooling machine. I told him not to do it, because he would get in big trouble. He didn’t seem to hear me, and so I repeated myself. He looked at me and rolled his eyes, and so I threatened to tell him if he did, and so he finally quit. I can’t believe he is crazy enough to actually believe he could repair the heating and air conditioning system. Repairing HVAC units should only be reserved for professional heating and A/C workers, not for someone who has no experience. Our parents arrived, and we didn’t even have to tell them about the HVAC issue. Thankfully, they called the cooling worker, who could come out tomorrow and repair the unit. When the next day came, the cooling in our home was restored.

One of my least favorite chores was coming up, and that was anything involving cleaning.

I really hate cleaning the inside of my house, and if I could afford it, you better believe that I would hire a maid. But since I can’t, I have to make sure my home is cleaned every now and then. Otherwise it would become quite dirty, and as much as I hate cleaning, I really would hate living in a dirty house. Especially since that is bad for the indoor air quality. This weekend I had already dedicated myself to cleaning, and as I wrote down everything that was going to need to be cleaned, I remembered my heating and air conditioning system. I like to make sure my central A/C device gets cleaned as well. The thing is, I don’t know how to properly clean a central air conditioner unit, and so that is something I leave to the professional heat and A/C servicemen. So after I was done writing down my list, I made sure to call the local HVAC company close to me, and schedule heat and A/C maintenance. The HVAC maintenance was to take place on the weekend as well, which is perfect because I would be in my home making sure everything looks nice. When the weekend came, I was in the middle of mopping my floor when the certified A/C worker arrived. I warned him of the wet floor, and then let him get to work cleaning the cooling component.

I moved with my family to the South when I was in elementary school.

My parents were splitting up and my mother’s mom and dad lived down here.

It took a lot of adjustment getting used to the weather down here at first. For one, I lost the ability to experience the change in seasons. I always used to love watching the leaves go from green to auburn and finally brown. It was such an amazing thing to experience every year, even after knowing that the trees would eventually shed their leaves and look barren for the next 6 months or so. But then the onset of snowfalls and blizzards would bring us a beautiful blanket of white to the ground around us. Finally, whenever the winter would finally stop and spring would come, we would see the green once again in life to start over as the year begins anew. Living in the South we don’t get that change of seasons, nor do we get the cold weather during the winter that requires using a heating system indoors. I can go for months at a time without turning on a furnace living in the south. Sometimes I really just use the space heater if it gets particularly cold at night while I’m trying to sleep. There are a lot of people like me who live down here and barely use the heating system in the winter. They just don’t have a constant need for one like the people who live up north. You can’t survive in the winter northern regions without having indoor heat. Even if that just means using a wood stove or a fireplace.

My grandparents are a lot different than me.

Obviously they come from a different generation, but they also have vastly different practices when it comes to their own home.

For one, I don’t wear my shoes in the house anymore. This is something I quit doing after I started renting my own studio apartment for the first time. After I started mopping my own floors with shoes being worn in the house, I realized how disgusting the mop water was just after a day of walking around. That’s in part why I quit doing that once I started to live on my own. But I also realized that I didn’t have to worry about my parents and my grandparents telling me I was wasting their electricity. For once I could pay my own electricity bill and worry about my own electricity usage. And this resulted in me taking ownership over my air conditioner use. I don’t feel bad about using the air conditioner when I’m hot or when there’s a heat wave outside. It’s my electricity bill at the end of the day and I’m happy to use the air conditioner even if it causes the bill to go up a little bit. I don’t have to worry about my parents or my grandparents complaining while they insist on never using the air conditioner themselves. My grandparents rarely use air conditioning at their house. But the funny thing about that is that both of my grandparents insist on using the furnace even when it’s not particularly cold outside. They’re kind of two-faced about HVAC use, where they bemoan using air conditioning on the one hand while insisting on abusing their heating system on the other.
